Sea caves are the reason most people first get into a kayak.
Benagil on the Algarve, the flooded rooms of Phang Nga, the grottoes off Mallorca and the low arches of Ha Long. A hull is the only thing narrow enough to get inside, the light is best in the first hours, and the swell decides everything.

Twenty kilometres of soft limestone between Lagos and Benagil, undercut into arches, blowholes and roofless rooms. Tour boats slow at the entrances and turn around. A kayak goes inside, lands on the sand and waits for the light to come through the hole in the roof.

The cave with the round hole in its roof sits a few hundred metres along the cliff from Praia de Benagil. Guided paddles land inside when the swell allows and work the arches either side when it does not.

What actually cancels a kayak trip, and what to paddle instead.
Open-water paddles are called off for wind and swell, almost never for rain. Sea caves need a low swell, hong tunnels need a low tide, and northern water stays wetsuit-cold well into June. Sheltered water answers all three: lagoons, rivers, springs and mangrove creeks run on the days the coast does not.
